Cabin mounted VOR antenna

Has anyone ever encountered a cabin or fuselage mounted VOR antenna? I am
trying to avoid running the coax to the back for the usual fin mounted
antenna.

The tri pacer I bought for parts had one mounted on the wing root fairing.
I can't comment on how well it worked though.
