murray

to brace the instrument panel with firewall cut back shorten the two square
tubes and join together behind the firewall with two triangular plates (.25
or 032) and then extend one square tube forward and attach to firewall with
angle, in other words turn the "v" brace into a "Y" brace behind the
instrument panel

instrument panel brace

Thanks Mike:

I had another idea but yours sounds better.

I cleaned, allodined and primed all my tail cone skins and bulkheads before
assembling. When I got to the cage I primed mating surfaces and riveted.
Before riveting the bottom skins on with the fuseladge upside down, I
cleaned all the floor channels and bulkheads and primed. Of course I also
primed all the skins as well. Seemed like a long tedious job but it looks
good. This is nice to be done cause it really feels like I'm getting closer
to the end. That's where I'm at.

Good Luck

instrument panel brace

I am not sure that is the best solution Mike. In addition to bracing the
instrument panel MAM might be attempting to add a little sideways
support to the firewall. You may recall some reports of cracks in the
dashboard caused by the firewall working side to side a bit. Prior to
the float fix mod, the attach point on the firewall was fairly flexible
in the fore and aft direction.
Just a thought but you might consider extending the triangular plates
you mention, forward to the firewall, instead of using a forward and aft
tube there. ie. use brackets on the firewall like MAM does, only make
them bigger.
