fus 2 gussett

Post by Murray & Carol » Fri Feb 17, 2012 9:16 pm

Hi from Calgary:

In the bottom carrythgough gussett fus 2, why is it necessary to countersink
the 4 holes when the RV4621 rivets do not appear to be countersunk rivets.
Maybe I have not read far enough on.I am installing the bungie gear if this
makes a difference.
Please comment.

Thanks

Murray, your RV4621's better be countersunk or MAM supplied the wrong ones!!
These 4 holes on each FUS-2 must be countersunk when installing bungee gear
(not necessary if going with the spring gear) so there is a smooth surface
for the wishbone tubes to bolt onto. Can't remember the pt# but the square
1" x 1" tubes that form the "wishbone" for the gear stuts to bolt onto, bolt
into the holes in the fus-2's at the predrilled hole in the gussets (that
you enlarge to 5/16ths)

Wayne:

The RV4621 rivets are not flat topped like the other countersunk rivets. In
order to countersink these 4621's I'm trying to figure a way to countersink
the fus 2. I ground a 27/64 drill bit so that the bottom of the hole is
almost flat to accept these rivets. Haven't drilled my fus 2's yet.
Thanks for the comment. Are the 4621's round headed?

Thanks

Murray, I'm not following you on the rivets, but it sounds like you have the
wrong ones, or you are looking at your RV1621's instead of 4421's. RV4621's
are definetly countersunk rivets that should only require countersinking the
holes at 120*. A drill bit cutting angle is close enough if you don't have a
120* counter sink. Your RV4621's should look just like a 3/16 version of the
1/8" RV4412's. On the other hand, the RV1621's are normal dome style rivets,
and maybe you have these by mistake.
