rudder pedal springs

Post by klehman » Fri Feb 17, 2012 9:16 pm

Hi

I was wondering if anybody has fastened the forward end of the rudder pedal
springs to the firewall witch's hat instead of to the lower engine mounts? I was
thinking of doing that and then fastening the rear of the springs to the
outboard tips of the rudder pedals directly forward of the rudder cable
attachment points....

One benefit is that if the rudder bar/pedals ever broke, the other spring would
not pull the opposite rudder on. This has caused problems a few times on other
aircraft after a weld failure on the rudder bar.

Ken

rudder pedal springs

Ken I'm not sure I understand your plan as the witches hat is only on one
side. The nice thing about attaching your springs to the motor mounts is
you can drill a row of holes along the bracket and move the spring to
different holes to trim the rudder. Because of the offset of the rudder
pedals the springs will be in different spots on the motor mount.

rudder pedal springs

Drew
Thanks for your thoughts.
Yes I should have said I was thinking of attaching the springs to a bracket
mounted on the rivets that hold the witch's hat to the firewall. You are right,
there is little room to do this on the right pedal. Being able to easilly trim
the rudder with the springs is a neat idea.
