Perhaps I <have> "felt the lift you get from those terrible Cessna
flaps when you pull on a couple of notches" - I've flown 140's, 170's,
172's, L-19's, and a 195. My favourite was a 1958 Square-tailed 172 -
when it was just a few months old..... (now <those> were FLAPS !)

Anyone who has flown a 172 with full fuel and a couple of very
heavy people knows it is "the fastest speedboat on the lake" !

I meant the whole airfoil - not just the few inboard feet that
are changed by the Cessna flaps.

(there is always the off chance that one of my other comments <might>
be more accurate - but nobody has ever accused me of accuracy ! ;-) )

Hey - lighten up !!! :-) We all like to tease a bit !!!

Anna has a T-shirt that says "Life's too short to fly Cessnas"
- she wore it to a chapter BBQ last year, and our local Cessna
dealer "was not amused" !! :-) :-) ;-)

Yes, I always use full flapperon for takeoff and landing.
That's what it was designed for ! This is NOT a Cessna, it's a
real airplane ! The flapperons alter the shape of the whole airfoil,
to provide more lift - unlike the barn doors on a Cessna that are
designed for drag.
Bob, perhaps you have never felt the lift you get from those terrible Cessna
flaps when you pull on a couple of notches when on the step: they are
fantastic. Did you mean to say "the whole wing" because Cessna flaps
certainly change the airfoil shape?

And then there is Everet Mackela (might be wrong spelling) who put Cessna
wings on a super cub and believes they have made a great improvement
especially because of the flaps.
