wind shield support

Post by Jones, Mike » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:56 pm

Hi All

Am starting work on firewall extension to support the windshiled and got a
couple of questions.

1- the manual states to make 33" long and it should only cover one corner
tab on the firewall when centered but on my firewall (stainless) it covers 2
tabs, should i trim it back sides to only cover on tab, i dont have
windshield yet to check the fit so not sure how big (wide) it needs to be
???

2- the extension piece can not be pushed under the dash top since the side
panels have the tops bent in at 90 deg. , should the extension have small
slots cut in it so it fits around the side panels ??

Hope this make sense
regards

#1 I made my extension 31" and it JUST makes it. I have 1/8" coverage between
the flip up hood and the fiberglass windshield retainer. Better make it
longer than 31".
Mine sticks out 5 3/8" from the firewall when done.
#2 Can't remember that far back. Just do what you think is appropriate.

I should have made that statement more clear. I have 1/8" coverage where the
end of the extension stops and the fuselage starts just in that corner.
Everywhere else there is plenty of material.
