Fus 30 doubler

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:56 pm

Probably a good idea in theory Bob, but after you were done cutting the
large slots (about 1 1/4" x 6") through it for the elevator push pull tubes
to come out through the sides of the fuselage, there's not much point in
strengthening it that far forward. The shape I make the FUS-30 doubler will
just clear were the slot comes through and is working very similar to a
house floor joist holder. A hard tail wheel first landing (or rough ground
taxing) creates a downward pull on the tail springs attach bulkhead and an
upward force on the fins tail post. The doubler is only there to help keep
the bulkhead and the post from moving in relation to each other, that would
cause the area between these two locations to buckle!

Looked at Wayne's FUS-30 mod - personally, I would bring the
doubler farther forward, maybe another 3" or so, picking up more
rivets at the top, and all of those on the bulkhead .... but that's
just me !

Fus 30 doubler

You're right - a lot more work, and more rivets ! My main
concern, and original reason for the doubler, was the high side loads
from moving in mud and snow, (that they don't have out West ! ;-) ).

Fus 30 Doubler

Post by Geoff van Asch » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:50 pm

G'day
I am doing the FUS 30 and stuffed up the attach to the bulkhead Fus 36.
With much #%&@& and the part now replaced - (fits far better the
second time so I have got over the issue of stuffing up.)
But the question.
I have the back half of the stuffed FUS 30 (remember my issue was the
front) so I will use that as the doubler.
Is there any reason that the FUS 30 doubler at the construction stage
can't be placed inside the full FUS 30?
The end product would look at whole lot cleaner and to me whether the
doubler is on the inside or outside where it attaches to the Fin
shouldn't matter.
Anyone with any thoughts
Thanks in advance.
