battery cable

Post by capete » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:56 pm

On the SR the battery is recommended to be in the back of airplane.

How have builders secured the cable going to the front through the
bulkheads? With a hole the size of cable with grommet? Or did you make
the hole much bigger than cable and secure with MS21919 clamp as per
AC43-13 manual?

battery cable

Post by Al & Deb Paxhia » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:56 pm

Peter,
I cut a 1 1/4 " series of holes and lined the edges with catipiller grommet.
At Boeing Surplus I found a thin wall Teflon conduit to run through the
holes from the rear tailcone door to the gear box carrythrough. In the
conduit are battery cable, wires for the hydraulic pump , elt, and trim. Out
of the gear box I used grommets for all wires three 1/2" holes, also used a
MS21919-x clamp to hold battery cable midway between the control column and
the firewall, did not use clamps on other wires, just grommets. Used
grommets at the rear bulkhead also. All seems secure, battery cable is
suspended all the way and quite rigid.
