Ipad/tablet nav apps

My GPS died last season and before I get another one I want to see who is using a tablet and what app they are using for navigation. In Canada we don't have digital av maps but I don't them for the flying I do. I just downloaded Giai GPS for my iPhone and it looks like it might work as you can download both Canada topo and google earth.

Air Nav Pro for Canada. Just pay once for the app, and all the maps and airspace updates are free.

Thanks Walter. I will try it with my wife's ipad. I hear the nexus 10 is a better tablet, any body have any experience with both of them or what kind of mounts you are using.

I have an iPad cover that includes a knee strap, which works OK in the cockpit. But my biggest complaint is the glare on the screen. I have tried a glare screen, too, but it still isn't great. I also have my Garmin GPS, and for just navigating that is still the best, by far.

But the Air Nav Pro app is useful for long trips into unfamiliar territory with all the detailed airspace info. Especially since I don't always keep my Garmin up to date.

I too am replacing my GPS with a tablet. I purchased a Nexus 7 and installed Air Nav Pro. The GPS on the Nexus locks on even inside the house and the screen is excellent. I have just been learning how to use it and am going to pick up a mount to use in the plane. Haven't been flying with it yet, but impressed so far, including flight planning / creating route. Good Av database. A lot less expensive than an dedicated Av GPS with more functionality. There are lots of Av Apps out there.

Yeah, I like Air Nav Pro. You get a lot for just the price of the app. One of the features I like is the on screen note pad which you activate with just a swipe, and you can write down with your finger, frequency codes and squawk code instructions from a controller, or anything else you want to use it for. I have my check list on there too, with nice big font, so easy to read as I page forward thru each section. And my iPad GPS works just fine on my knee, no need for an external add-on.

Now if they would just make a better glare screen, or select a better background.... If Kindle can do it, why not Apple??
