Delrin aileron torque tube bushings

Post by Ralph Baker » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:38 pm

How much radial play is acceptable between the 2" diameter torque tube and
the delrin bearing? The manual says lightly sand out the bearing to a free
fit. Actually, I had the fit after sanding the bearings and only then
discovering the tight fit was caused by an out of round tube. Having now
corrected the out of round tube, there is now 1/32 radial play between the
tube and bearing. Realizing that sloppy control will result from tolerance
accumulation I will replace the bearings if 1/32 is deemed excessive.
Opinions please.

Delrin aileron torque tube bushings

Ralph, I hesitate to publicly give advice as I am new to the Rebel.
However, I am an Engineer and and A&P and more importantly, I just
finished the torque tube assembly in the left wing. 1/32" does seem a
little excessive to me, if it is easy to replace, I would probably do so
since it will be very difficult to change later.
