Wing: Turning it over.

Post by Roger and Alice Hoffman » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:35 pm

I have the framework of the right wing together and need to turn it over to
begin installation of the bottom wing skin. There are no skins installed
yet.

The framework seems really fragile and I am concerned about bending
something If two people grab it at both ends and try to rotate it, since
there are no skins on it yet to give it some rigidity.

I saw the recent post on 12/6/00 from 'Carol51' re: 'Wing Flip', but have
concerns about bending the spars (center sagging) when the leading edge is
lifted clear of the table and rotated down. My work area is limited and
installing screw-eyes/pulleys in the ceiling would be a last choice for me.

Can two persons rotate the framework up onto the leading edge spar, then
down on its top side, or would the weight crush the leading edge ribs?

Or would it be a better idea just to disassemble and re-assemble up-side
down?

I would appreciate anyone's thoughts, tips, or suggestions.
