Trip to alaska ( further than yesterday)

Post by scott_lanier » Sun Feb 19, 2012 6:31 pm

Day 2

Well woke today to blue but overcast skys. Got a quick wx brief and
northbound. Along the way I met a supercub heading to Alaska. He was
about half hour behind me so I waited at first stop for him.

After leaving smithers I was met by overcast skies at 5000 ft so I had to fly
the valley at 4500. Which worked out really good. Flew the whole leg and
didn't have to climb at all. It was a 3 hour leg through a river valley that
happened to have a highway. So today I flew IFR. ( I follow road). The valley
was socked in so I couldn't see the tops of the mountains. Cool flight. I
reached Dease Lake and made a bouncy landing but safe one. Topped of with
fuel and added oil. Billy the cub driver came in fueled an we headed for
Whitehorse. I followed him until I found out my plane is about 8 mph faster
than his so I passed him and landed in Whitehorse before him. Only 540 miles
to go to reach anchorage. Will leave here in the morning and hopefully clear
customs into Alaska. If not the Yukon looks like fun to.

So off to dinner and bed cause Im going to Alaska tomorrow.
