Conical vs. Dynafocal

Post by Roland Kriening » Sun Feb 19, 2012 6:24 pm

Not knowing much about engine mounts I thought I would post this for some
responses. Some Lycoming engines such as 0-320B1A use a conical and others
use a dynafocal ? mount. When building our Rebels is one preferred over the
other or does it not make a difference. The mounting attach points on the
firewall would be in the same place regardless.

That being said, does anyone have experience with the B1A version... good
bad other.

Conical vs. Dynafocal

Post by kpierson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 6:24 pm

As Si stated the the mounts are different, the 0-320B1A requires a Type
2 moter mount, which is 18* where as most dynafocal engines have
a 30* mount face. Chances are that if you go with a B1A you would
have to weld up your own mount. I intend to use a B1A because they are
160 HP and will burn 91 octane. Prewelded 18* dynafocal rings are available
through ACS, or Wicks.
