more on fuelgauges

Post by Geert Frank » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:34 pm

Hi, for you people that prefer mechanical fuelgauges over the tube or
capistance gauges, I went out to my Rebel and did some measuring for you. By
the way I know nothing about Elites, but I would assume the measurements
would work for you people also. If you look at your rootrib in your
fuselage, left or right, makes no difference, you will see there are five
"sections" ( I forgot what the technical name is) in each rootrib. I made
that hole to view the fuelgauge through, 3 inches in diameter, if you
measure AFT of the mainspar(where that big main gusset sits) along the
fuselage rootrib go 17 and 3/4 inches exactly and that gives you the aft
center location of the viewing hole, now measure 4 and 3/4 inches from the
roof and you have the CENTER of the 3 inch hole pinpointed. It should fall
in the third or middle section of the above mentioned five sections. As you
all of course know there is some distance between the above viewing hole and
the gauge which will be flush with the wingroots ( L and R), however I had
to maybe move my head forward a little, but I never had any trouble seeing
the indicators. I rechecked and there are indeed those four screws going
into the nutplates inside the tank. Since I have the floor, I also want to
report that using one of those Subaru Legacy submerged (inside the fueltank)
fuelpumps, one in the left tank, one in the right tank, with a switch for
each pump has been working very well. Realize of course that I am using the
Legacy engine and need that much fuel pressure for an injected engine. Each
fuel feedline(metal w. aviation fittings!) has a non-return valve. That's
it, best regards, Geert Frank
