[rebel-builders] Aileron Hinge Spacers ??

Post by Charlie Eubanks » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:45 pm

Hi Roland
According to my part sheet you have the numbers reversed. The 605 are 1/8
thick and the 610 are 1/16". If you can't find a source they should be easy
to make. The material is 1/16 & 1/8" thick, they are cut 1/2" square with a
3/16 hole drilled in ths middle.

I am looking for the hinge spacers identified as W-605 (1/16) and W-610
(1/8) and cannot find them anywhere in my supply of parts. Do I make them
from some sort of stock material or are they an actual part? Can AN
washers
be used instead? I have kit # 56, and these are only identified as spacers
on the original plans with no dimensions or part numbers. On the newer set
of plans I have (1999) they are actual part numbers.

I need to bring the hinges out from the spar a bit to allow for clearance
between the top skin and the ailerons. Any ideas??

They were still not part numbers at 119R. Personally I'd make them up
out of scrap aluminum instead of using washers. Spacers help but
trimming back the skin trailing edge may also be worth consideration. A
carbide router bit does a nice job. Or a belt sander works. Bending up
the skin as per the manual tends to make a wavy trailing edge. High
quality nut plates on the bolts as per Wayne's posts may also be worth
considering.

Use nutplates. They are an easy install and especially nice since you won't
have to work a wrench into those tight areas (in theory)!
