[rebel-builders] MAM - Question for Bob P.

Post by Jeff Micheal » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:41 pm

To James & Builders / Owners of Murphy Kits:

It is my opinion that putting this on Bob to answer is unfair. Bob has been
happily interacting with customers, builders, owners and all the like for
near two decades. Bob has put in his personal time without a second
thought, not because he had to, but because he chose to do so. Yes Bob was
asked by Murphy to take on the role of Sales and Marketing, because he was
always in the public eye, attended most of the air shows and interacted with
aircraft enthusiasts on a regular basis. The fact of the matter is MAM
didn't have the resource to have a full time sales and marketing staff.

I'm not going to put the onus on Bob to answer for the actions of MAM, nor
do I think anyone else should. The answers to your questions should be
answered by MAM. I will forward your blog to Darryl Murphy for a reply or
not.

I'm glad to hear you resurrected your Rebel with the help of your Father and
Brother, very well done. But as most builders/owners know if they are
unable to obtain parts from MAM, there are other resources to get parts,
whether it is to make it yourself (as you had done) or enlist the help of
people like Wayne O, Bob P or myself. Nobody is left out there to hang.

Just my 2 Canadian cents worth and my personal position with your "MAM - ?
For Bob P".
Cheers,
Jeff

Bob,

I can understand the your desire to try and minimize and or eliminate the
very
critical discussion of MAM's shortcomings on this public forum - especially
since this is the ONLY place any aviation enthusiast can get ANY
information
regarding Murphy products since communication from the factory itself is
non-
existent. I myself have experienced the frustrations regarding needed
parts
for the rebuild of my Rebel and have also posted critical comments about
Murphy's inability to meet even basic business expectations like answering
phones, emails or heaven forbid actuallly being able to ship parts.
Luckily for
me, I have a very talented Dad and Brother who have the ability and desire
to overcome all of these obsticles which resulted in my Rebel returning to
the
air this past August after 3 years of work.

On September 15, 2008, Murphy posted a letter on their website that named
you as the new sales and marketing arm for Murphy and that all future kit
production would be completed based on an accumulated order basis - once
10 kits orders were accumulated with appropriate financing/deposits, a
production run would be started with kit shipment anticipated 8-10 weeks
later. So in the last 14 months, as best I can tell, Murphy has had
exactly
ONE production run of any kits - the Maverick run that started in Jan/Feb
of
this year. You continually post on this forum that they are running a
skeleton
staff and up to their A** in Aligators. Now for my simple but sincere
question, and I'm hoping you will answer truthfully for all of the Murphy
enthusiasts on this site. What exactly are they working on? Because it is
very apparent - it isn't kit production or parts manufacturing to satisfy
their
extensive backorder list.

[rebel-builders] MAM - Question for Bob P.

Post by bill lowery » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:41 pm

Gentlemen,

For what it is worth, a couple years ago I bought a ground looped rebel at Sun & fun in the parts mart. It will soon fly in the next few months. Last month we discovered all the nose ribs in one wing were crunched with no obvious sign on the leading edge skin. No response from MAM when I tried to order parts.

Solution. We flattened a rib scanned it in and cut new ones on a c&c machine. With the same info we cut a male and female die and used a hydraulic hand press. Worked like a charm. If anyone ever needs nose ribs I can kick them out in a matter of minutes.

[rebel-builders] MAM - Question for Bob P.

Post by cosglo » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:41 pm

It would appear that in any financial dealing with MAM then any forward payments should be placed in an escrow account until the goods are delivered in full. IS MAM going down the previously well worn track of an aircraft engine manufacturer now no longer in business called NSI. I hope that I may get to complete my aircraft.

[rebel-builders] MAM - Question for Bob P.

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:41 pm

I wouldn't compare my worst enemy to NSI...

Darryl's pedalling hard... thanks to being left high and dry with hundreds
of unread "shipping" emails to go thru. The fact that he's even sticking
this economic downturn out, after 24 years, tells me he's not gonna let you
down knowingly.

[rebel-builders] MAM - Question for Bob P.

Post by Jeff Micheal » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:41 pm

Wayne,

I don't recall anyone leaving Darryl "High & Dry"....... he is captain of
the ship. From what I've seen over the years, Darryl will see it through to
the end; it may not happen as quick as people would like -- But the doors
are still open.

Cheers,
Jeff

[rebel-builders] MAM - Question for Bob P.

Post by Fred Messinger (fredm) » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:41 pm

I agree Jeff, and I have definitely had my "moments" with MAM and I've
aired them in this forum - entirely born out of frustration with response
time. But I must say, at the end of the day, MAM/Darryl/Jeff/Nancy have
always made me whole again.

I'm pulling for 'em!

Bob Palmer

[rebel-builders] MAM - Question for Bob P.

Post by Bob Palmer » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:41 pm

All,
Everyone has an interest in MAM's speedy recovery. It won't happen as
fast as we would like. I am sure that everyone is aware of how useful
this site is for helping each other out in the way of info and parts. I
would like to see us explore another way of helping each other out
something like a parts pool. Better still would be for us all to be
asking MAM to provide Bob Patterson with a parts catalog with prices.
Then if you have a part you aren't using you could send that info to Bob
and (for a fee) if needed he act as the go between. You would get paid
something for your spare part and be encouraged to list it. For instance
I was sent a Moose cabin roof with my Elite kit. I have told them about
it and would be happy to give it back but they just don't seem to have
the ability to do that right now. They owe me a tire and it's the same
problem. I see a solution to this but it takes a third part which I hope
will be Patterson Sales.
