die spring gear wraps

My die spring gear springs were originally wrapped in some form of tape
which is coming unravelled now and needs replacement. What have others
done for covering these? What kind of tape would work?

I swapped back to wheels from the amphibs yesterday - have it down to
about 2hrs 20 minutes. No longer a big deal at all.
