[rebel-builders] It flies.........

Post by Rick Harper » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:52 am

CONGRATS Mike !!! :o)

Problem 1: Adjust angle of "drooping" flapperon with eyebolt ends at mechanical mixer arm

Problem 2 : Make "notches" bigger OR bolt longer ....

better still - Make a "Rick Harper model Flaperon Lever" .... MUCH less aggravating to use, ... more leverage, .... fairly easy to make - (uses most of the original setup) ... and ,... when you pull down - you GET "down" !

Send me your e-mail address & I'll send you some drawings & pic's

Well everyone, N771ME Elite flew today for the maiden voyage. This was the first opportunity with out wind to make a flight. The rest of the week looks bad, but have some adjustments to make in the mean time. All went well. Outside temp at 35 F.

Climb out was around 2450, oil temp made 155, EGT 1400, CHT
highest seen was 375. Air speed indicator looks good.
I notice at full throttle the engine has some vibration, but at 2400 it is smooth as glass. I think it is a rotation problem up front related to balance and not an engine running condition.

2 problems, it flies out of trim right wing heavy. Almost looks like the left aileron is drooped slightly when the other side is neutral, at least it looks that way in flight, but it looks that way on the ground too, not sure if that adjustment will correct this or not. Maybe droop a flap?

Second problem is flap lever won't hold detent. It looks like the detent bolt isn't going to the bottom of the notch far enough. Going to have to change something and try again.

Also planning on cutting the oil filter to make sure all is well before going up again too.

Thanks for all the support this group gave me for 2 years. Hope I can help someone else in the future.

Outstanding.

Congratulations on your major effort and success. I've been following your
progress through your clear questions and the great answers on this list.
Through your accomplishment, you have helped so many of us.

I am pushing to get Elite N645E flying by this spring. Well, end of spring.
Actually, around these parts (near Seattle), the rain doesn't end and summer
doesn't actually begin until the first weekend after the 4th of July.

See you in the air and congratulations again.

Thanks, but looks like any Rebel flap lever isn't going to work on the
Elite. The handle is T shaped and extends out into the wing root to control
the flaps seperately from the ailerons. Would have to re-engineer the whole
thing. Hope to tweek what I have.

Congrats Mike: I still smile when I think of my 1st Rebel flight 7 or 8
years ago. I am really looking forward to the one I am working on now. I
do
not know how the Elite is set up for the flap lever, but if it is similar
to
the Rebel, I have a simple lever design for you. Bob J Rebel 192/731

Congratulation Mike

Yesterday night, the local chapter (Quebec City) meething was in my shop.
Having others builders around encouraging me to pursuit that "crasy dream"
an then know that others builders did it (and fly it!) is a real good "kick
in the a...) to continue...

Happy for you

[rebel-builders] It flies.........

Post by Ken » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:52 am

Congratulations Mike

On an Elite is there any way to angle the notches very slightly so that
the up force on the flaps tries to pull the bolt deeper into the notch.
Or maybe widen the bottom of the notch so that the flaps have to be
pulled down a bit to retract the bolt? Downside is that an angled notch
may make it easier for a tail wind gust to grab the flaps and force them
out of the notch on the ground?? Don't angle any reflex notches in the
same direction as they tend to push up on the flaps. There is something
to be said for the positive lock on the factory Rebel flaperon handle
cause slipping flaps can be very bad...

Thanks for the info. That is probably what I need to do, angle the
notches some.
