Hi Joel !

I wouldn't worry about the cams ! I've flown Rebels with the factory-stock
2.2 Legacy engine - stock fuel injection, stock computer, everything untouched
- worked great !!! Enough power for most normal flying, and smooth & very
fuel efficient !

Thanks for the site address - lots of useful info there ! Looks like you are
doing a superb job ! Guess you are going to run a 1/8" thick 1 1/2" or 2"
angle along the bottom of the instrument panel to mount throttle, trim, etc.
AND strengthen the whole fuse by tying it to the door posts ....
This is fairly common practice now.

e23 I hear there's a set of cams I coukd get that would get it up to 160hp
but I think I'll leave it stock for a while and see if I really need to
burn that much gas...

Which Subaru conversion are you using and how much power are you getting
from the 2.2? I am a long way from doing anything yet but have had a
look at the Crossflow conversion done just up the road from here in
Shelburne. I would like to know more about your reasons for choosing the
Soob engine when you have a spare moment or two, no rush I am probably
years away from changing my engine!

Thanks

I'm putting a Subaru 2.2L in mine and it's about the same weight as an
O-320. I didn't cut mine back. I upgraded my lower front tapered
corner wraps to .032. Murphy sells them as FUS-452 I think, they're
the ones used on the Elite. I used .025 FUS-70 corner wraps up top.
You're kit probably has FUS-10 .020 corner wraps - I wouldn't use those.
I will be using a lightweight warp drive prop. I'm using a heavier
steel tailspring and a Scott 3200 tail wheel for some extra weight aft.
If I have to I'll install the battery aft, add a toolbox aft or add lead
in the tail. I chose not to cut it back because you loose panel space,
radio clearance, the windshield hangs past the firewall and I might want
to put a lighter engine on someday. Not to mention the extra work...

Hi Bob,
Yeah I figured the stock engine will be plenty. What redrive(belt or
gear) and prop was on the one you flew?

About the panel, 1/8 thick seems kinda heavy. I was thinking maybe use
some U channel like the stab spars are made from..

I think the stab channel was only 0.032. FWIW I tried 0.040 and it
seemed a bit light to me for that channel. OTOH 0.062 was quite robust
but difficult to bend and perhaps overkill.

Hi Joel !

It had a Ross geared re-drive - worked fine, but they're no longer in
business. Never flown one with a belt ... The prop was a 72" 3 blade
Warp Drive - ok, because of the redrive. Being able to change pitch is very
handy - something that was in-flight variable would be even nicer, but takes
lots of $$$$ (don't even think about the NSI !!) !

The ST-28 (.032) channel would work, with tabs to fasten to the
posts - the angle (doesn't have to be 1/8") is usually easier to come by,
and very sturdy ! ;-) :-)
