Hi Bruce I've the factory recommended setup on my rebel and I think I'm
getting about 10 or 12 degrees up. It's an extra 2to5 mph. when I have them
reflexed. I don't think I have much play in the mixer but there's lots of
play in the teleflex cable, the clevis pins at each end and in the flap
handle mechanism itself. I think there must be less of an air load on the
flaperons when they're reflexed than there is when they're down because even
with twice as many notches down I get the same amount of movement as up.
This is one of the areas I'd like to improve on my plane.

Drew,

Does your Rebel keep the 10 to 12* deflection in flight?

In flight I can see the trailing edge of the flaperon about 1 1/2" above the
trailing edge of the wingtip. I'll make a mental note of the position next
time I'm flying and check the deflection with my handy little angle finder.
It may take a while though I'm switching from floats back to wheels and
building skiis. I was thinking after I wrote last time and probably the
teleflex works better in tension than it does in compression.

I am under the impression that a heavier teleflex won't really help
because there isn't really any significant stretching or compressing of
the cable or sheath. There is freeplay between the inner and outer
pieces of course and I did look closely at using two teleflex cables to
eliminate that but it got a bit complicated and a bit heavy so I put it
on hold until after I get flying. IIRC, it was challenging even finding
a source for a teleflex as heavy as MAM ships. Most had lighter inner
cables.

well. I'm going to check some industrial and marine suppliers to see if
theres a heavier teleflex cable available. I'd prefer to not go with an
electric actuator but that might be the simplest solution

or 5*. That's slightly more than what I see on mine (about an 1 1/4") and

G'day from Down Under Bruce ...

541R looses HEAPS of angle with the flex in the cable & rocking of the
mixer arm in flight ...

On the ground I get 6, 12 & 18 (I only use 18 in extreme short field spots,
... and I only deploy it at 40 knots or less ... really pulls her up at the
last second !) ... but the angles in flight are FAR LESS than what I get in
flight .... So I just purchased one of Vans Aircrafts' electric flap
actuators to replace the whole telecable, lever etc .... Should get rid of
heaps of the flex !
(and it has a "D-dent shaft" which you can modify to give the angles
(multiple) of deflection you require) ... so you can program into it the
reflex position as well !

I hope to have her back in the air in a month or so (still finishing off the
IO-320 installation) ... I'll let you all know how it goes then .
