Sun & Fun

Post by George Coy » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:52 pm

Well guys, If we go to war there will probably not be any Sun-N-Fun as we
will be back to red alert status and no VFR flight.

Ya know, I like the Murphy product, but they don't seem very interested in
marketing. I recall several years ago going to a dinner at some local
university near Oshkosh. It was great fun and lots of opportunity to see,
hear, etc. Very similar to the spirit this service provides. But there
is
nothing like seeing the people and talking face to face, even as good as
this is! I'm not going to Sun & Fun, but is sure seems like a shame that
MAM can't be the organizer.

I talked to Colleen Friday and as of now there is no Murphy related
party / meeting / barbeque in the works. Brian and Robin are in the
Phillipines related to a move of manufacturing location for the fast
builds. The kind people who have hosted us in past years have sold
their Rebel kit so that is a slim chance.

I asked Colleen to advise murphy-rebel@dcsol.com as well as MAM website
post if there was a decision to have any sort of get together. If
anyone has a suggestion as to a time / place to meet during the day or
early evening put it here for discussion. It could be as simple as lawn
chairs and coolers at a designated place in the campground.

Rick,

Its a problem of economics. MAM was not making enough sales at SNF to even
begin to cover the cost of moving airplanes and people from Chilliwak to
Lakeland. Several years the airplanes arrived when the show was half over
because of bad weather. The air shows in the Pacific Northwest , Alaska and
Canada is where they make their sales. Or so I've been told.

It's not too early to think about a Murphy gang get together at Sun &
Fun. I owe Bob P a beer (not that he would drink it!)
How about Wednesday or Thursday at 5:00 PM at an on site venue (with
beer) to be determined later? The beer is non-negotiable but we can
vote on the day.

Post by Bob Patterson » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:00 am

Sounds good to me !! :-) I don't remember you owing me
a beer .... but I could be persuaded !!

Like last year, I'll buy the first round for everybody -
except, this time, I'll BE there to drink one myself !!

Suppose we all meet at the Murphy booth - near the FAA
building, at 5 PM (or 4 - for a head-start ;-) ) ... We could
go to the Homebuilders BBQ Tent, if it's still there, across from
the FAA building. If not, we'll decide on a spot & leave a note
for the rest. Right now, I think Thursday might be best - but
we don't want to miss the night airshow ....

Shall we figure on Thursday, and post a note at the
Murphy booth if it changes to Wednesday ???

I'm arriving Wednesday, so would vote for Thursday. I'll happily drink Bob's beer if he doesn't want it.

I also want to second Ralph's comments on the Sioux air drill. I tested one of these at the Cleaveland Tool booth last year at SnF, and this time I'm going down there with cash in hand to buy one, after using my Ingersoll Rand for a year. The Sioux trigger is very smooth, and the drill is a pleasure to hold.

Jean,
We drive from South Carolina and camp. Look at the S&F website for
information. If you fly in be sure to be completely familiar with the
approach and it is busy. Not real complicated but very specific. The
consensus seems to be to meet at the Murphy display at 5:00 PM Thursday
and then decide where to go (must have beer!).

Prior the meeting time was to be 5:00 PM Thursday. Bob P stated 4:00 PM

do not want to give Bob P a chance to avoid buying me a beer.
Regardless, we should post a sign giving the agreed on location for any

Sun & Fun

Post by Bob Patterson » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:09 am

Hi Jean !

The Builders Get-Together is a low key event - we will
find a place on the grounds with the primary requirement - beer !
And likely some food, too, for those who want to continue to
socialize (most of us don't stop at 1 beer ! ;-) ) Bring
photos, if you want ... hope there will be lots of tips 'n tricks
exchanged !

There was a Homebuilders BBQ 'restaurant' right across
from the FAA building in years past - if it's still there, that
will be ideal, as it's close to the Murphy booth. Failing that,
I guess there's always the Barnstormers Pub & Pizza place ...
or whatever else we can come up with !

In any case, for those "thirsty" ones, we can meet up
at the Murphy booth, choose a spot, and leave a note/sign for
the rest, .... and get a head-start on "getting together" ! ;-) :-)
