REBEL Doors

Phil
sounds good. you might ask if anyone with gull wing doors ever flew with
them open, that's a long door and I don't know what would happen when you
open it in flight, I never had the nerve to try it. If no one has done it
you jest became a test pilot.
approach it carefully. I would guess you have discovered you need to trim
the bottom front corner of the door off and add in a piece to the front door
post and sill to clear the strut. I miscalculated the strut position the
first time and had to redo it.
let me know how it works to open it in flight. Don't mean to sound negative
but I've had a couple not to fun times when doors opened that didn't like
being opened in flight.

REBEL Doors

Post by Michael P. Snow » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:19 am

Hello there Phil and Keith,

I know Rick Fords Rebel had gull-wing doors on it and the door had a little
gas strut to hold them open and help them close. If I remember correctly the
opened slowly and quite controlled. I somewhat remember something about him
telling me that he flew his rebel with one door open (his) but don't quote
me on it.
I have pictures of his door setup if someone needs them.

Rick may still be on the list although he does not own his rebel anymore.
Rick are you still here?

Could you post the pictures of the set up to the list. We are about to start

Michael,

You have to go to the list web site to posts pictures. Pick the plane and
category to place them in.

On the REBEL some one on the list shot me the mesurment for the wedge you
have to build on the bottom front of the door opening to clear the wing strut. On
the MOOSE I wouldn't know.

REBEL Doors

Hi all, I have flown my airplane with the gull wing doors open many times.
how else can you do a ballon drop? did try to latch the doors against the wing
bottom once, but as I tried to push it up to latch, the stick feel really
changed. I only tried it once and I won't try it again. I may try removing the
doors though. unlatched the doors just float at about a 45% angle with no effect
on flying. I do like my doors for float ops, but they are all I have ever used
so I cannot compare. Curt n97mr
