Bruce,

Generally, any thing you do to an airplane effects something else. It's
always a trade off.
In the case of a STOL kit (increasing lift and drag on the wing) it will make
your plane fly slower and climb faster but all at the expense of your top end
speed.

New Rebel builder (Almost)

Hello Bob,
Thats interesting, Ya wouldent think at the speeds the Rebel flys that rivits would make a difference. After building 6 RV's and working on a Harmon Rocket now I wouldent want to find out theres a easyer way to rivit, I would be spoiled forever :-). I seem to always do things the hard way, Hehehe. Its best to listen to the guys that have been there for sure...

Bruce

Hi Bruce !

Flush rivets would be an ENORMOUS amount of work, but would
add a smidgen of strength. I suspect they would actually REDUCE
performance, though. For years, I've maintained that the Rebel's
rivets were 'built-in vortex generators' - tongue-in-cheek, but it
seems, from recent experiences with flush rivetted leading edges,
and some commercial vortex generators, that they really are !!
(Both the flush edges & commercial VG's <reduced> cruise speed !)

I believe the McKenzie STOL kit goes for about $2,500 - please
jump in here, Angus ....

FWIW, I would really recommend that you just build the Rebel
with the Avex rivets - it'll go together faster & easier, and likely
have better resale value .... You WILL love it !!!
