Hi everyone:
Just joined the site and have been looking at the posts. Very informative.

My partner and myself are considering building a MOOSE. He already has the
order forms from MAM. Found there is an 8 mo. wait for the kit.

Would like to get some opinions from the group as to how good the kits are,
we're looking at the fast build kit, and how helpful MAM is if you get into
problems while putting the thing together. Also has anyone finished a Moose
and about how long does it take to get it assembled. We'er looking at the M-
14P for the power plant. Any info about that engine would be of great help.

We'er in the Chicago area. Is anyone close to this area?

Welcome Steve,
Moose N526AP took 5 years to build from a kit. I think the fast build would
have saved me 3.5 to 4 years. This is with the IO540 which has a lot of
examples available for mounting firewall stuff. What have you fastbuilders
been doing in your wait time?

Hi Steve !

Welcome to the list ! If you've been browsing, you've
likely seen some mention of the Rebel Builders Meetings up here
in Brampton, Ontario (CNC3). We're just north-west of Toronto - bit of
a drive for you, but we do have builders coming in from much farther
away (Louisiana & Maryland !) on occasion. If you get here on the
Saturday before the meeting, you might be able to visit a Moose
builder, or get a ride in a Rebel.

You are very welcome to come on up anytime - the next meeting
is Sunday, Sept. 15th, at 1 pm. We have over 100 Rebels in Ontario,
about 28 Renegades, 2 Mavericks, and about 20 Moose/Super Rebels,
and several builders fly in for the meetings, if the weather's good.
We share tips 'n tricks on how to build, where to get supplies, and
many different ideas on customizing the Murphy kits.

I'll post another notice a bit closer to the date, but you
can call me between 9 am and 10 pm at (905) 457-5238 if you want
directions, or more info - always happy to talk airplanes !! :-)

To me, the fast build is WELL worth it - you wouldn't get
nearly that much completed in 8 months ! Several builders have
ordered the tail kit, to have something to work on while waiting
for the rest of the Q/B - this also saves a few dollars....

As for the round engine - have you flown a radial-engined
airplane ?? There's a lot of romance, but several operational
considerations - they might not be for everyone ....
(Like everything in life, there are trade-offs !)

Hi Steve,

We built the Moose tail from the kit and have the fast build wings and
fuselage. I'm glad we built the tail as it gave us a good introduction into
the construction methods used and the use of the MAM manual. MAM has always
been very helpful with any questions, either by email or phone. This list is
an excellent source of support. There are many Rebel, Elite, Super Rebel
and SR/Moose builders on here with tons of been there, done that,
information.

In my opinion the fast build wings and fuselage are constructed very well.
At first I wasn't sure I wanted to spend the extra $$ for the fast build.
Now I am glad we did. It goes together unbelievable fast. We started
construction on our fast build wings just over 3 weeks ago. The flaps and
ailerons are complete, the wings are closed up with only (a big ONLY) the
tips and the tank leak test/fix to go. I have a fairly accurate log and can
pull up some time of construction numbers if you want.

We went with the M14 for cost, performance (climb, not speed), and the whole
round engine noise and mess. You can probably get into a used Lyc. at a
comparable cost and they look and perform very well too. By the time you
get to the engine installation phase there will be a lot more information,
ideas, and opinions on how to put the whole M14 package together.

Thanks for the info.
Have been trying to locate CNC3 at Brampton, Ontario, but can not find it on
the maps. Looked at the AOPA airport lists and on Cirrus flight planner and
it's not listed. Could you give me a better location or close city.
May want to fly up and see what's going on.

It might be listed as just NC3 .... We're about 30 miles
North West of Toronto - very close to Pearson Int'l Airport (YYZ).
Brampton is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada, with over
300,000 people now. The airport has 2 paved runways, 3,500 ft.,
and 2,600 ft., and over 200 private aircraft. The club is the
largest in North America, with over 1,300 members and a fleet of
about 26 aircraft, from 152's to 2 Senecas, including a Super Cub
and a C-172 on amphibs. The club owns the whole airport - about
200 acres, and clubhouse, classrooms, hangars, Cessna dealership,
avgas and jet fuel service.

We meet in the RAA Clubhouse at the very North end of the
airport. RAA-Toronto Region is one of the largest chapters, with
about 130+ members, our own hangar and machine shop, and about
100 projects underway, including many Rebels and S.R. / Mooses
(Meece ??). ;-)

Please do come on up if you can. We can help you with your
Moose order, too ! Or maybe show you how a Rebel just might do
everything you want to do !! ;-)

Hey Steve (and Bob),

Hmmmmm.... 30 miles direct flight from T.O. would put you just south
of Orangeville. 30 miles would get you to Brampton and BACK to T.O.
Maybe Bob means Kilometres. 30 clicks would be sort of close. Well,
closer anyway!

Print this out, then go to URL <http://www.airportguide.com/> and
type in CNC3. Have a good look around. I'm sure there are other
sites, but his one works OK.

CYYZ is Toronto (Pearson) and is located at
N43 40' 38" W79 37' 50" (from Canada Flight Supplement)
or
43.67210N by 79.62930 W (tower location according to Microsoft).

CYYZ direct CNC3 is about 11 nautical miles bearing 309.


CNC3 is Brampton and is located at
N43 37' 37" W79 52' 30" (from Canada Flight Supplement)
or
43.75929N by 78.87320W (according to Microsoft)

Elevation is 900' and runways are:
15/33 at 3500' X 40' (asphalt) or 75' including turf
and
08/26 at 2500' X 40' asphalt. Threshold of 08 is displaced 191' due
to railway operations. This railway track is a single line and
juuuussttt misses the threshold of 08.
Runways cross like an "X" off-centered, sort of like a cross between
letters X and V, with the crossing to the south-east0 quadrant.
Circuit height listed at 1700 ASL. Be careful of the Toronto Class C
space.

Taxiway Alpha (only 18' width) full length north side of 08/26
Taxiway Bravo (only 18') full length west side of 15/33

All airport operations, services, hangars, are in the north-west
quadrant, including both the Brampton RAA and the Canadian Head Office
of RAA (don't get confused!!), . The Rebel meetings are held in the
Brampton RAA club-house, which is located off the north side of the
northern-most westbound hangar-ramp, at the very north of the second
row of hangars west of taxiway "B". Phheewww. I only tell you that
because I had to find it in a freaking SNOWSTORM, so I'm verbose just
trying to make it easy for you. In fact, EVERYBODY else seems to have
no problem finding the place the first time.....It's just me I guess!

informative, and lots of help.

Hello Scott,

I was wondering if you might be able to give me an idea on some of the
construction times. Did you get the fast build tail? I am going to be
starting shortly on the fast build tail, but have not built a plane before
so I will likely be asking lots of questions on this site as we progress.
