O-320-A2B engines

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:21 pm

Hi Everyone!

You already know to contact me for freshly overhauled engines from Leavens
and ATC, at a better rate than you can go it alone, but I will also have 3
(possibly more) engines available direct in the near future.

I have just acquired 3 x 150HP O-320-A2B's that were from/for the Ugandan
Government Super Cubs. Two are wide decks (-27A's) and one is a narrow deck
(-27). All 3 are conical mounting and are first time overhauls (Israel) with
approx 1900 hours TT and 3 Hours since major overhaul (*7 yrs ago). Of
course being the pessimist that I am I immediately pulled cylinders to
verify what they looked like inside and was amazed to see absolutely clean
cases/rods/crank/cam/lifters etc with no signs of wear or rust (my personal
Rebel engine wasn't this clean last fall when I pulled a cylinder!!). The
cylinders (steel) are all of course slightly rusted from sitting and the
acidic nature of the fuel residue left above the pistons and the obvious
fact that no inhibiting spray was used.

I talked with John, from ATC, at the Orillia "Splash in" and will be taking
the first engine (a wide deck) over to him on Monday morning for complete
inspection. Even though they are claimed to be 3 HR SMOH we will be totally
disassembling to verify EVERYTHING is up to snuff. Then reassembling with
what ever is required and test running on the dyno before resale. All
engines can run a vacuum pump, as the gear is there ready to run the adapter
shaft (that is necessary to mount the pump to). Can be blocked off with a
plate for now and then the adapter purchased and bolted on later if so
required. Forgot to ask him, but I'm pretty sure that at least the two wide
decks can be upgraded to 160 HP if so desired (they have solid crank
flanges). By the looks of the part numbers on the cylinders/pistons etc, all
3 engines look to have been rebuilt using only genuine Lycoming parts.

If anyone is interested this is a good time to contact me directly as the
engines have no accessories. I have one set of SLN20/21 mags and an oil
filter screen to get the first engine running, but need carbs for all of
them as well as mags and filter screens for the other two. Therefore if
someone wanted an engine, but wanted to go with Electronic mags, B&C 90* oil
filter or something, that could all be worked into the deal without the
expense or waste of leaving a mag/screen etc on a shelf somewhere. As all
engines don't have starters, flywheels or alternators with them, these will
be all supplied new as well (unless the buyer has a better plan!) Sorry
don't have a price at the current time until we get the first one torn down
and going back together, but should be able to do somewhat better than the
$19,500Cdn I sold the last overhauled Leaven's O-320-E2d for.

Does anyone on the list have an (or a few) MA-4 carb(s) for a 150/160 HP
Lycoming in airworthy or overhaul'able condition?? I need 3 right NOW if you
want some cash!

Thanks for listening!
