Rebel Inner Floor Channel

Post by Terry Dazey » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:04 pm

Hello Rebel Builders:

I am in the process of installing the fuselage tailcone inner floor
channels (Chapter 12.2 ? Inner Floor Channel Installation, Page 17 ?
29/06/98).

The manual says to build brackets from ST-40 material to attach the
floor channel material to the bulkheads (and to each other laterally).
These brackets get three holes drilled on each face of the bracket).

Question: Where the outboard floor channels butt (nest) against FUS 23-2
skin (at the flange junction), I find that when inserting a rivet in the
bottom hole on the ST-40 bracket, through the channel material, the
rivet will bottom out on the FUS 23-2 Skin flange.

Is it best to attach the ST-40 Brackets using only the two top rivets
instead of the three as the drawing shows, or continue drilling through
the FUS 23-2 skin flange and attach all (three skins) together?

Does anyone have any suggestions on the proper way to address these
areas?

Thanks in advance for all comments and suggestions.

Your Pilot Pal,
Terry Dazey

Hi Terry,
I think on mine I put the rivets in from the other side so only the head is
between the flange and the channel/st40. To do this you have to rivet the
angles on the channel ends first, then rivet them to the bulkheads.
Hope that helps!
Joel

Thanks Joel. I couldn't see the forest through the trees on that one. Rivets
will be installed from the outside.
