Rebel "652 and floats

Post by Robert Johnson » Fri Feb 17, 2012 9:48 pm

Hi guys and gals; I am getting ready for the next phase of Rebelling which would be the addition of floats. Very briefly, would any of you float flyers please give me your comments in regards to the best make and model. I yet have to decide straight or amphibs. Thanks

Well, since you are on the Rebel list, you should expect to get a lot of Murphy Amphib endorsements. I, for one, am very happy with mine, and have been flying the Murphy 1800 amphibs since last Sept. I find the airplane easier to fly and land with the amphibs, and it seems to be very stable and easy to fly on the water. They are made to fit for the Rebel, and there is lots of builder support and experience on this list.

The only other ones I considered for the Rebel were the Full Lotus 2150's. However, they don't come with amphibs. Their big advantage is that they can be run up on rough beaches and used on snow without fear of damaging the bottoms. They are quite draggy, though, and not as efficient on glassy water either. Also, they will absorb water over time, and gain a lot of weight.

Let me say, too, that the Rebel with a 150+ HP engine is a great performer on floats, and you will be very pleased. Best of luck.
