Flare Fitting Question

Quick one for the list. When tightening down on standard flare fitting
nuts, should I put a drop of lock tight on the threads to prevent it from
loosening up, or are they not prone to loosening on their own?

Mike you're supposed to join flare fittings dry in order to get a good
metal to metal seal between the flare and the fitting. properly installed
there shouldn't be any tendancy for them to loosen. I can't resist using a
little pipe dope on just the threads. I guess I worked for a plumber for
too long. Lock tight won't hurt anything if you keep it on the threads only
and don't get any on the flare.

I've never seen one loosen up (YET!) either, but if you want to be sure you
could get carried away like the military stuff and corner drill holes for
safety wire on every tube nut!
