SR Frustration and Setting Cabin Aileron Torque Tube

Post by Don Boardman » Fri Feb 17, 2012 9:38 pm

Hi Guys,

Randy and I are experiencing an elevated level of frustration of late. We
are installing the control system and every time we turn around the
instructions are leaving out information that we feel we should have. Or the
correct bolt or bushing material is not in our parts inventory, or the
springs provided seem to be a compromise to what one would hope for. As a
second time builder I know the game but I expected better from Murphy.

I emailed murtech on the 13th and Brian on the 17th and have had NO RESPONSE
to date on whether the aileron push tubes that are inside the cabin should
be parallel to each other or do we following the manuals dimension and
install them 3/8 inch off parallel. It is very frustrating when we are
working hard to get this bird into the air in a timely manner and we are
delayed, it seems lately, on a daily basis. It would seem email would be a
very efficient way for MAM to respond to builders questions. ??????????

With no response it seemed best to install the push tubes parallel. We have
installed the cabin aileron torque tubes so that the push rods will be
parallel in the neutral position.

Next, we placed the lever arms of the torque tubes in the vertical position
( perpendicular to the floor) and proceeded to measure for the length of the
push pull tubes. We noticed that the tubes which run from the roof mounted
aileron horn ( Which MAM calls the Flap Horn? I know they are interconnected
but the horn moves the ailerons.) meets the torque tube lever arm at a
70-80 degree angle. Is this correct? We question whether it should meet the
arm at a 90 degree angle.

Lacking specific instructions and details as to lengths, angles etc. I get
to thinking twice, thrice etc. I would like to get the installation done
accurately.

Thanks for lending an ear ...

Post by Scott & Leere' Aldrich » Fri Feb 17, 2012 9:38 pm

Hi Don, sorry I am no help..still waiting for fuselage and wings. Back when
I had parts to work on I always got a reply to me tech emails the very next
day. Wonder what is up with that? Guess they had some problems with the web
site, maybe email too?

Scott
SR..err,I mean Moose#174 (Not sure I can get used to that...)

SR Frustration and Setting Cabin Aileron Torque Tube

Post by capete » Fri Feb 17, 2012 9:38 pm

Hi Don,

Just for the record, Brian was away last week when we tried to contact him.
Should be back today.

As for the aileron push tubes our manual (Chapter 12, step 46) states that
they should be vertical on each end. No mention of 3/8 inch off parallel.
We installed our aileron torque tubes in the neutral position.

Also in Chapter 12 Figure 33 shows the lever arms to be vertical, no
angles/degrees are mentioned. The date of our instruction is 16/12/99.

Hope this helps a little, Don.

SR Frustration and Setting Cabin Aileron Torque Tube

I too share your frustration with the builder's manual
on the SR. The kit is wonderful, the manual was an
afterthought.
