The M14P radial vs. 540

The $20,000 to $25,000 less that an M14 costs (if comparing new)pays for a
lot of aggravation and fuel..plus it sounds and looks cool...isn't that all
that matters.. :)

PS. I think either (Lyc or M14) one is good, but don't think I would pay an
extra $2500 for an electric starter. I know some just carry an extra bottle
of compressed air.

O-540 of 250 hp (it's NOT a C-180 !) - I personally am not convinced
that the extra aggravations of running the radial are worth the effort !!

The M14P radial vs. 540

Hi Scott !

Well, the money IS important..... but flying on amphibs is
like working out on the World's Largest Jungle Gym !! I just can't
imagine hopping from the front of one float to the other each time
I pull that brute through the minimum TEN blades, plus 5 more after
priming, before starting, every time !! Welllll - I CAN imagine it,
but I can't see myself getting my aging body to DO it for the next
several years !! ;-) (and that's not counting the FOUR Tilley shirts
I ruined in one week, with the oil stains !!)

Wow !! $2,500 EXTRA for electric start !!! I'm with you -
forget it !! I LOVE Phil's comment " Don't be like the government
who keep 'fixing' things until they're broke !" (or WE're broke ! )
Just take along a large SCUBA tank for the emergency situations....

And it DOES look and sound WONDERFUL ! (Romance has its price !) ;-)

The M14P radial vs. 540

Well Bob, since you would most likely fall in the lake trying to jump from
one float to the other, maybe the oil stain wouldn't have time to take
hold!!!!!

Seriously, I know there is a Beaver driver on this list. What do you do with
a Beaver when it has sat at the dock for a few days, before you start
it?????

Wayne G. O'Shea
