Hi Ron !

Just heard from Ted - he's on the road (air), and can't post
to the list now. He asked me to let everyone know that he
will be flying in on Sunday morning, July 31st, in his Moose.

He plans to fly together with Dennis Mecklenberg, who
will be in his Super Rebel. They are meeting in Iowa & flying
together to OSH.

They will be camping together in Central Homebuilt Camping,
west of the Forums - so come visit, especially Tuesday afternoon
at 4 pm onward, for the Builders Get-Together BBQ Party ! :-)
(We'll supply the beer, wine, munchies, and bratwurst & burgers !)

Ted's Cell number there is: 303-378-4987 This is an alternate
in case you can't reach me or Anna ! ;-)

If you are flying in, please try to join the 'Rebel Row' in Central
Homebuilt camping - be nice to see a line of Murphy kits !

Hope to meet everybody there at the Moose - Ted plans
non-stop partying all week ... We'll be there at some times,
most every day ... ;-)

We're on the road Tuesday morning - hope to get in and set
up the tent by Friday July 22 ...

Wrong date !!

OOooopsie !!! That's what happens when you post too late
at night !!

The CORRECT date for Ted Waltman (Moose) and
Dennis Mecklenberg (Super Rebel) to arrive is,
of course, Sunday, July 24th !!!

They plan to stop at Baraboo - Wisconsin Dells (KDLL)
to set up Ted's wing camera for the flight in. Another great
video in the making !! :-)

Got it Bob, and thanks for the correction. For a minute there you had me
worried we're a week early for no reason.

After a late start yesterday, funky WX grounded us late yesterday at Auburn
WA just east of SEATAC, where we're now waiting for the fog to lift so we
can get over Snoqualmie Pass. Should be a great day of flying east of there.

Hi Ron !

At least you are on the way - we're still packing ! Hope to get
going in the morning.....

Say Hi to Keith when you top up at Libby - with these temps,
I'm sure you won't be stopping at Kallispell ! ;-) Should be
an easy run right through to Shelby, at least ....

Our forecast humidex is 40 -45 Centipede for the next week !
(Think that's over 100 Frankenstein .... HOT !)
Likely same at OSH, but cooling a bit for next week ... might be
spending a lot of time in the air-conditioned museum ! ;-)

If you can park in Central Homebuilt Camping, that'll be
great - we can have a "Rebel Row" !! :-)

Fly carefully - watch traffic - arrive safely !!!

[rebel-builders] Re: Oshkosh Roster

Post by Ron Shannon » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:54 pm

Actually, we _are_ now overnighting in Kalispell (@ the quite posh Hilton
Garden Inn for just $89, courtesy of Red Eagle Aviation's customer rate --
yay!) which was 90F when we got here about 1800 local, but IMHO, it's a
perfect overnite stop from which to attack the highest pass (Marias) east of
here in the cooler morning air tomorrow, rather than the very hot very high
density altitude afternoon we had in '07.

The run from S50-ELN-SZT today was only 22NM less than the AWO-ELN-SZT run
in '07, except we had had to climb to 7500 to clear WX at Snoqualmie Pass,
and just passed over Ellensburg without a stop. Had a nice lunch stop in
Sandpoint, but had to run the crew car for lotsa mogas. They had no avgas
today "because the train didn't make it to the refinery." :-/ You can't make
this stuff up.

So we're actually now almost three hours further than we were at the end of
the first day in '07, having started at almost the same distance, and
perfectly situated for the last big climb in cooler weather in the morning.
This is where I'd hoped to make it on the first real day, to have cool
morning air for that last climb, and couldn't be happier to be here. Yes, it
was both hot & bumpy getting in here this afternoon, but clear. (FWIW, the
runway at Libby was closed by NOTAM yet again.)

If weather doesn't slow us too much on the downhill from the Rockies, we'll
be landing OSH Thursday morning, as planned. See you soon.

Ron

Hey, Ron, sounds like you will be on the home stretch soon. Your trip
actually brings back a few memories. Have done that route twice now, once on
a Ramble with Bob P. et al, and then with Al Paxhia on the way to Wayne's
place in Temagami. Still remember well cruising along at a cool 9500 feet,
but then having to come down into 90+ heat to fuel up. It was much more fun
in the air than on the ground.

Do you have a Spot? If so, could follow your progress on your tracking page.
