[rebel-builders] Moose windshield install

Post by Ted Waltman » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:50 pm

I have pictures that I will email you directly Phil. Basically, you put it
in place and get a feel for how much you need to trim off of all aspects.
Mark areas to trim with sharpie. Take a small bit off at a time, fit,
remark, retrim a very little, fit, remark, trim a very little...

Some folks have made metal (aluminum, 0.020") retainers (multi-part); others
have made one-piece fiberglass. I did fiberglass but if I were doing it
again I'd do multi-part aluminum I think.

I'll send pics.

BTW.. when you get a properly fitting windshield, before final installation
take a large piece of paper and crease/fold/tape to the shape of the
windshields moulded features and trim to match the windshield perimeter.
Store said pattern in a safe place, so when the time comes to make a new
windshield you can pull out the pattern, quickly mark the windshield with a
sharpie and cut it to a perfect fit. You'll be really grateful you did this
if you ever have to replace a broken windshield... especially if you can't
fly it from a base that isn't home!

Does anyone have pictures and/or advise on the moose windshield
installization? I checked the archives & found nothing. The minimal
directions in the manual stated little trimming would be needed but our
windshield is WAY oversized.

thanx in advance
