Does your delron blocks have an offset? What are your block measurements?

Jeff,

The blocks are 1 11/16 square. The hole is offset by about 1/16 from centre.

Also, the length of each of my assemblies seems to be on the short side (16
1/4") based on the pics I see in the archives. Most likely because it is an
early kit. If I put one delrin mount on the outside of the engine mount
bracket, the other end only clears the centre by about 1- 1 1/2 inch. In the
diagram it looks like this should go out about 4-5 inches.

Roland,

Make sure your blocks are oriented to give you the most height. I had to put a .040 shim under one set to clear the 5/8" tube. CW

[rebel-builders] Rudder Pedal Mounting

Post by Jeff Micheal » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:43 pm

Roland,

As I recall, the earlier kits did have a shorter delrin bearing block. The
newer kits have blocks that measure approx. 2" H x 1 3/4" W x 1/2" Thick.
Measurement from bottom of the block to hole center should be about 1
1/4"and bottom of block to bottom of hole should be about 15/16", giving you
about 3/16" clearance between the 5/8 square tube and the rudder pedal
assembly.

If you have one of the older delrin bearing blocks, just make a shim to sit
under the delrin block to give you clearance; 15/16" from bottom of block to
bottom of hole in delrin will give you the clearance your looking for.

Cheers,
Jeff

Hey Jeff,

Were you able to measure the length of one of the rudder pedal assemblies..
as mentioned when I set the delrin block next to the engine mount bracket,
the other end of the assembly barely clears the centre square tube. This
leaves my rudder pedals quite far apart.

[rebel-builders] Rudder Pedal Mounting

Post by Ken » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:43 pm

Roland

I don't seem to have a photo (I think I uploaded one a few years ago
though) but you probably want the pedals as far apart as possible. In
addition some of us also added an inch or so extension on the outboard
pedals to fasten the rudder cables to. The idea being to get the cable
attachment as far outboard as possible to minimize the angle that the
cable bends at the cage fairlead point. I think Canadian rules call for
a pulley if more than a 3 degree bend. Also it may be more comfortable
to keep your feet as far apart as possible in flight.

I did not need any shims under the bearing blocks on 119R but I did have
two layers of doublers there since I mounted the bottom of the master
cylinders on floor brackets. That mod requires doing something to keep
the floor from flexing too much. I think the bearing blocks were indeed
close to the center square tube as you have observed.

You can also get creative if you want. At least one builder moved that
square tube to below the floor. Actually I think he replaced it with an
piece of angle material below the floor.

[rebel-builders] Rudder Pedal Mounting

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:43 pm

Hi Roland !

Many builders have added 2 more 5/8" tubes, one on each side,
equidistant from the center, and installed a sheet of .032 or .040
on top of them, extending out to the corner wraps. This double floor
stiffens things up a lot, raises your feet a bit, and eliminates the
conflicts with tubes ...

:-) :-) :-)

[rebel-builders] Rudder Pedal Mounting

Post by Jeff Micheal » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:43 pm

Hi Roland,

The rudder pedal length is 18", so there was a change from the earlier kits.
What I would do is get rid of the 5/8 sq tube on the inside floor and
replace it with stiffener on the outside bottom skin (witches hat or a
couple angle pieces will work). When you put the stiffener on the bottom
outside skin, install it so the stiffener captures the firewall and the
bottom cabin skin (this way you are tying into 3 pieces and adding
additional strength to the fwd floor).

Cheers,
Jeff

assembly.

If you have one of the older delrin bearing blocks, just make a shim to sit
under the delrin block to give you clearance; 15/16" from bottom of block
to
bottom of hole in delrin will give you the clearance your looking for.

Cheers,
Jeff

Does your delron blocks have an offset? What are your block measurements?

[rebel-builders] Rudder Pedal Mounting

Post by Roland Kriening » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:43 pm

Thanks Jeff,

I will definitely move the stiffener to the outside. I have been trying to
source the same witches hat we used on the firewall, with no success. ACS
only has smaller witches had that is very flimsy. Does anyone know where I
can get more of the larger witches hat?

Cheers,
Jeff

Hey Jeff,

Were you able to measure the length of one of the rudder pedal
assemblies..
as mentioned when I set the delrin block next to the engine mount bracket,
the other end of the assembly barely clears the centre square tube. This
leaves my rudder pedals quite far apart.

Roland,

As I recall, the earlier kits did have a shorter delrin bearing block. The
newer kits have blocks that measure approx. 2" H x 1 3/4" W x 1/2" Thick.
Measurement from bottom of the block to hole center should be about 1
1/4"and bottom of block to bottom of hole should be about 15/16", giving
you
about 3/16" clearance between the 5/8 square tube and the rudder pedal
assembly.

If you have one of the older delrin bearing blocks, just make a shim to
sit
under the delrin block to give you clearance; 15/16" from bottom of block
to
bottom of hole in delrin will give you the clearance your looking for.

Cheers,
Jeff
