[rebel-builders] Cable tensions - Was:control cable turnbuckles

Post by Jesse Jenks » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:35 pm

I just set up my cables too and I set the turnbuckles up to have 4 turns inside the barrel (max for initial set up per ac 4313) this leaves a good amount of adjustment either way. I also made tangs for the pedal/cable attachment with 3 holes 1/2" apart. So far I don't think I will have to use any of the built in adjustability, but we'll see. Now all I have to do is figure out how to safety wire those turnbuckles.

Show me a builder who's never over analyzed _anything_ (if you can find one)
and the plane... and I'm guessing I probably wouldn't want to fly in it.

Probably best to not leave more than 3 threads on each side before you hand
tighten the cable for the front Nicopress, because when you come to
balancing or fine tuning everything, including the return spring tension,
you may actually want to loosen one side to keep both pedals even with each
other and the rudder centered. Next thing you know you have to make another
one. Been there.

Hang in there. As I've said before, it turns out all the hard work and
delayed gratification really is ecstasy in the bank, which comes back with
geometrically compounded interest.
