Nope. That's partly because as you do the trimming, sanding, and fitting of
the windshield, the rubber channel will probably have to go on and off the
windshield several times as you trim and fit the bottom edge. (As I recall,
mine went on and off the bottom so many times, it got a little dinged up, so
I cut another for final assembly.) I don't see why you shouldn't use 3-4
strips of blue painter's tape to hold it on during the fitting process,
except you might run a risk of pulling the protective covering off the
windshield before you want to. As per the manual, after trimming and
fitting, the windshield and the rubber channel are heavily taped into
position before layup of the fiberglass retainer. The retainer is formed
over the taped channel and holds it in place.
The vertical side edges -- which do not have rubber channel, of course --
may need to be clamped to the fuse during the retainer layup process. After
protecting the acrylic surface with lots of tape and paper, I used bar
clamps and pieces of plywood. See
http://n254mr.com/node/1214, which shows
the clamps and beginning of the taping. Roger Hoffman also has good photos
of this (and everything else!) on his site, at
http://tincantimes.dcsol.com/default4.htm . He managed to get the side edges
pulled in with tape -- much better if you can do it.
I'm sorry your windshield broke. When it's trimmed and fitted, very little,
if any, pressure should be required for it to sit properly in place all by
itself. My own "clamp persuasion" to curl the side vertical edges around may
not be needed by others, depending on the "set" the windshield has taken
during storage, etc. I sure wouldn't have tried to clamp it anywhere else.
If the windshield is properly trimmed and fitted, tape should be adequate to
hold it everywhere else -- and in most cases, probably along the side edges
too.
Takes a ton of patience to trim and fit. An extra set of hands and eyes sure
helps. My windshield probably went on and off the fuse 50-60 times to get it
to where I finally decided it was good enough.

Did you glue the channel on place on windshield, before my windshield
