million emails off the server. For years I've had an address on my system
of test@dcsol.com that I used when working on other email systems... it
was an autoresponder. So if you sent an email to test@dcsol.com you'd get
a response within a matter of seconds letting you know that both your
outbound and inbound mail was working properly.
Well the spammers apparently found that address, because the system was
trying to send a bunch of bounce messages to test@dcsol.com for
undeliverable addresses... which caused a loop. And filled the email spool
directory with hundreds of thousands of messages, adding another 300-500 new
ones every second!
Anyway, I finally got it all cleaned up, and disabled the autoresponder...
so hopefully this won't happen again!
