Let me sugest you use oillight for bushing material and predrill 23/63"and

hi all

big day on weekend put right wing on for first time, did not get strut
on, next weekend

my question is perhaps obvious but just want to check

the rear attach bracket on the wing goes between the attach brackets on
the rear fuselage bracket, right ??

also one hole in the lower strut attach bracket on fuselage is a little
loose due to the drill moving to much, am thing of making a brass
bushing 3/8 id and 7/16 od into the hole to make tighter fit for the
strut bolt any comments

cheers

Yes sandwich the rear spar fitting and then use washers or spacers at
the front attach point so that any forward and rearward forces go
through the forward fitting.

A bushing will only help if the looseness is in the strut fitting and
not in the fuselage fitting. The way to get a snug fit is with the
appropriate reamer of course. I used three thou under for AN6 (0.372")
although 2 thou under also works well. AN bolt dimensions vary several
thou. Sometimes just trying a different bolt helps. If you use a
bushing you want it firmly inserted which means a thou or two of
interference fit. Warm the aluminum fitting and cool the bushing. Insert
it quickly and firmly. Ream the bushing after it is inserted. Obviously
you won't be able to ream the inside of the bushing unless it is firmly
inserted so that it does not turn. Thinwall brass bushings are not the
easiest thing to do. Bushings made from steel tubing can be easier to
work with especially if sized to not need reaming.

Getting the hole aligned in both parts of these fittings is challenging
unless you assemble the parts and ream both parts at the same time.
Perfectly sized holes don't help if the hole in the two fitting pieces
don't align when you assemble them.

That said I'll bet lots of wing struts have some play. I don't think
I've ever encountered negative G inadvertently or in turbulence in the
rebel though so maybe not much of an issue within reason?? I'd be more
concerned if the wing spar attach bolts were loose allowing the wing tip
to move forward and backward.

Sometimes a precision AN bolt (see Spruce catalog) will take out a few
thou of play for AN3 and AN4 bolts but I don't think they come in AN6 sizes.
