[rebel-builders] Straighten main wing ribs on SR2500

Post by Jones, Michael » Sun Feb 19, 2012 6:15 pm

My rebel ribs had lots of twist, aslo root rib ones for fuel tank, I
believe stamping process causes it but once you cleco and then rivet in
place they are okay, can be difficult to work with but you get used to
it

cheers

Can someone tell me how to get the main ribs straight on a SR 2500.
The stamping has them twisted about four inches back to front
and fluting would just make it worse. If you hold them flat they will
pop
back
to the same twist when released. Would a stretcher work?
Thanks
Bill

Bill,

No need to straighten, just cleco into the top and bottom wing skins and
you'll be fine. On the other hand, you may want to shrink/stretch the solid
ribs to make them easier to work with.

Cheers,
Jeff

Fluting worked just fine for me. I didn't even try to mark the eventual
rivet positions first, although that might be a good idea to prevent having
the low spots from fluting where the rivet will be.

[rebel-builders] Straighten main wing ribs on SR2500

When doing my SR ribs sometime back - after marking the approx. rivet
positions on the rib flanges, I used fluting pliers (sparingly and slowly)
to make the ribs lie almost flat. No flutes where the rivets go. Even if
there is some small curve, when they are clecoed and/or riveted, they are
straight. It does take some small amount of pushing or pulling to get the
cleco's or rivets in the holes.
