[rebel-builders] Rebel insurance

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:37 pm

Hi Ray !

Tough call in this market - most Rebels on wheels are in the
$60K - $85K range for hull .... Amphibs USED TO BE in the
area of $135K .... but today, maybe $80K - $100K would
be closer to market price (not near replacement cost :-( )

FWIW, I've always used Bill Cameron, at Rhodes & Williams Ins.,
in Markham - (905) 513-7600. Got better coverage than COPA
for less money. In the past, all Rebels got a discount because of
our design .... unfortunately, recent years have had some heavy
claims, so that went. They still cover many Rebels, and cover
some that other insurance wouldn't ...

Looked at your damage pics - all of these are covered now
by including the Ontario mods when building (I know - too late !)
The door sills are upgraded to ST-28 (.025), FUS-25 & 26 are
re-made in .032 or .040, and there's a 2" channel along the bottom of
the instrument panel, tied into the door posts ... pics in FILES,
among others .... Might be worth adding that channel, or a 1 1/2"
angle - the cuts at the bends are bridged with plate & rivetted.
Other main mod is upgrading all 8 corner wraps -FUS-10's to FUS-70's
- .020 --> .025 .

Since my plane is ready to go again I need to get some insurance on it. I
have used COPA in the past and will probably do again. What is the value
of a Rebel on Amphibs these days? I have a 2.2 subie and CAP prop on it
with a plain Icom radio and Narco mode c transponder. Pretty basic
interior

Hi Bob,
I've seen this dash mod mentioned a few times but never seen a
picture. You are talking about just the bottom bends right? Since
the top ones are already covered...
