There was a reference to the rudder on SR/Moose not returning to center. What are they referring to?

Fred,

I read the Kitplanes article last night and looked at the uploaded photos.
Nice airplane!

Looks like you did a nice job on the interior. I'm trying to decide if I
should just paint the interior or have a more plush finish . The ariticle
says you did some customer door panels. Also the firewall is nicely cleaned
up. Would you please describe what you did for your interior. How much
weight do you think this adds?

After 75 hours of flying I have never noticed what was described. Everytime I
let off the rudder, the plane returns to straight flight- ball centered.

But, the total friction in the rudder system adds up. It includes that built into
the rudder pedal assembly, that caused by the cables passing through each
RG-1 cable guide, and what's in the three rudder hinges.

I suppose when compared to the authors aircraft (2 seat RV), we probably
have more friction in the rudder system. There's is a different system and
they have bearing hinges on the control surfaces. So, I'm sure there's less
friction.

I've spent many hours cruising along at various speeds and it's always right
on.

I made a panel for each front door, a panel for the cargo door, a panel for
the opposing side of the cargo area, and panels for the sections under each
side window (just behind the front doors, by each rear seat).

The front door panels arm rests conceal the naca vent and tubes for the rear
seaters. (see the photos in the files section S/M Completed Aircraft). This is
one of the more useful things I did. My pax always comment on the
abundance of fresh air in the back. But remember, air you put in has to go
somewhere, so I also added two large exit vents through the rear gargo
bulkhead door. I have 4 naca scoops total - 2 going to vents in the
instrument panel, and one in each door for the passengers. The substrate for
the panels is household interior door veneer. All the panels are covered in
1/8" foam, then upholstered.

I've fully insullated the sides and cabin roof with a (aluminum
foil/wool/aluminum foil) insulation - sorry I don't remember what it's called,
and the firewall is insulated with the Firewall 2000 Ceramic Blanket which is
(stainless foil / ceramic / aluminum foil). I covered the cabin side of the
firewall insulation as well as both forward sides with a black auto trunk
carpet. All of my passthroughs to firewall forward are at the top of the
firewall.

I made my own fiberglass headliner which is 4 pieces. Two sides, a center
over the flap mixer assembly, and a rear section over the flap torque tube.
The rear cargo headliner is cloth only.

I have rubber mat up front under the pedals back to the aft edge of the
removable floor panel, carpet back to the cargo area, and bedliner paint on
the cargo floor. Aluminum carpet trim strips seperate each section and for
thresholds across the front door openings.

The seats are upholstered as well.

So, all this adds up to about 35 extra pounds (not counting the seat
upholstery which have to have something anyway) compared to bare metal I
guess. For me it wasn't about the weight. I wanted family and friends to be
comfortable. I carry people more often than Moose! :)

Everything I've described is visible in the 5 photos I recently uploaded, but I
have more than a thousand pictures, and I'm always happy to post any that
would be useful.
