There are many uses for a paddle on a float plane.

But, can they help you speed up an IFR approach with a Boeing 777 in trail?

Uh, well, no.

A Murphy Elite Amphib terminal velocity is about the same in level or
straight down vertical flight: 100 knots plus or minus.

I've been up in the air today getting current with my IFR skills, learning
how to fly a glass cockpit Dynon setup instead of the steam gauges that I'm
more used to, and trying not to be a total wrench in the works.

It's been fun; just ignore the sweaty hands and pits.

Okay, fun might be stretching it, it's been a workout. Combining my rusty
IFR skills, a float plane with paddle and glass cockpit, whew!

But after being ruffed up by the IFR and ATC system, it is really, really
nice to cancel IFR and rejoin the real world and fly low and slow over the
water as a float plane and spot seals looking up at you as you fly 20 feet
over them!

Just a report about how cool these Murphy airplanes are. Build 'em to
challenge your flying dreams.
