[rebel-builders] Rebel Main Cabin Floor

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:24 pm

Hi Charlie !

Many builders now add a few extra channels under the floor,
especially in the baggage area. It doesn't add much weight, but
greatly increases strength. Yes - it is a bunch of extra work ! ;-)

You should have lots of ST-31's left over, after replacing the
door frames with ST-28's ..... an early Ontario Mod. ;-)

Today I hope to finish installing all the support angles between the
bulkheads and the floor channels in the main cabin area. Installing the
floor (Fus- 47) is next. With all the feet and baggage activity in this
area I am concern about it only being .020 thick. I could reduce the spans
by adding more channels but that's a lot of extra work and don't think
that would make it any more dent resistant. Increasing the thickness to
.032 would help but add an extra 2-1/2 Lbs. Maybe I am trying to solve a
problem that does not exist? Would appreciate hearing what some of you
guys may have done?

[rebel-builders] Rebel Main Cabin Floor

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:24 pm

My floor is .020.. has the few channels that were called for back in '93 and
not the numerous extras of todays manual. I've had just about everything in
the back.. baggage, coolers, cook stove, aircraft parts (lyco case,
cylinders, you name it) being delivered, outboard motor, fishing gear etc.
a few minor dents.. but nothing serious especially considering if it was a
C150... there wouldn't even be floor to take that crap with you ! lol
