[rebel-builders] SR3500 Flush Doors

Post by Richard Wampach » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:16 pm

Yes; All three of my doors are flush mounted, hinged at the top. I
assembled the frames and bonded the skins to the frames using about 4 to
6 rivets to hold the skins in place while I added weight to hold them
flat on a stack of perfectly flat plywood.

Has anyone tried/succeeded in making their doors flush mounted?

It is something I have thought a lot about, but have not seen (on a
murphy).

It seems as though it would be fairly straightforward. I would be doing
it
on seaplane style flip up doors.

I guess you would just need a lip around the perimeter of the door sill,
and
a latch that drew the door inward to seal.

What do you think? Just stick with what is proven? It would sure look a
lot
cleaner.

Any input is appreciated.

[rebel-builders] SR3500 Flush Doors

Dick,

I am trying to picture what your describing...when you say bonded the skins,
how do you mean? with structural adhesive?

when you say they are flush, do you mean the outer door skin is flush with
the fuselage around the perimeter of the door? like a c-185, and most other
production aircraft?

any chance on getting some photos, hopefully fairly detailed ones, of your
doors?

that would help me understand what you did.

thanks.
