Seaplane door mod m(.Y.)se

Post by kyle martin » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:12 pm

m*(.Y.)*se (flip-up) seaplane door mod:

i am looking for more details re dimensions etc. for the mod. i can infer
quite a bit from photos on the web, but before i start cutting, i would like
a bit more info.

is the new "foot" of door post skin just a 45* like it appears (equal base
and height)? lengths of base and height?

how have you attached the inside door post skin to the sill lip?

any pitfalls others have experienced?

i am sure i will come up with more questions, but that should get me
started.

Thank you.

For the record, I realized my earlier post was a bit whacked. (wouldn't be

I said the 3600 is too big, but in fact the R-263 or 250 would be even
bigger in terms of displacement. (3.6L = 220cu in). The 263 would behave
smaller ungeared. The 3600 is already geared, not to mention already
available. I traded emails with Jim at Rotec a couple years ago when the
3600 was just coming on the market. To hear them talk about the torque of
that beast is part of what left me the impression it is too big. I still
think so, and in reality, thinking seriously about the price on these
things is pretty daunting.

There probably is no engine more practical than a Lyc (or clone) to get
150-170hp. But I shouldn't pretend I'm all about practicality! The
Rotec
2800 is too small IMO, and the 3600 is too big, although maybe okay for a
Murphy amphib. A lot of money tho. Not sure this makes sense, but the
lower part count of a 5 cyl radial is somewhat appealing (comparing to
the
other radials). The R-263 would be about 50% more displacement than an
R2800. And I like the ~100lbs less than an 0320.
