[rebel-builders] V8 Super Rebel for sale

Post by Bill Maxwell » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:07 pm

Hey Mike, why not just fly it out here? It's been done with much
smaller aircraft and I for one, would love to see it downunder?

I'd be looking at $80K as is, or $60K minus the firewall forward for
those Chevy-phobic folks. Even with insulation, a radio noise problem,
and tweaking for cooling and to increase cruise performance still left
to do I think that's a bargain based on what I have spent and what these
things are going for now-a-days. That's less than my money into the
project and no accounting for any labor.

Bad time to try and sell with everyone stuffing their mattresses with
what little they still have but if there's any interest, drop me a line
or email and I can fill you in.

that's not a bad idea Bill. The other thing is with the wings off, it'd
fit in a container. :-)
Where abouts in Aus are you shifting to Mike?

[rebel-builders] V8 Super Rebel for sale

I'd be going to a commercial Lockheed Martin satellite tracking station
in Uralla, NSW, halfway between Sydney and Brisbane. The last time I
moved to Australia I looked at the cost to get my Piper Arrow there. It
looked like a lot of money and a lot of hoops to jump through either way
(crate it or fly it). Something like at least $5000 just to get the new
Certificate of Airworthiness. I don't know what would be required for a
homebuilt. I'd be a bit worried flying it since I only have about 30
hours on it so far. Sure would be fun though. At least I didn't install
the over-water sensor that most aircraft engines have causing the engine
to quit when over water and beyond sight of land. If I remember right
the longest leg in my Arrow was going to be about 16 hours, San
Francisco to Hawaii. Don't know if I have enough cross-word puzzles for
that leg. The final straw that would break the camel's back would simply
be time to plan, prepare, and accomplish the trip, plus I don't have any
capital up front to fund it.

That being said, if anyone knows what it would take to certify my plane
in Australia, especially cost, I would be interested to hear. You never
know...

Mike

[rebel-builders] V8 Super Rebel for sale

Every few months over the last year there would be guy at my airport taking
apart a couple of small GA planes and putting them in a shipping container
bound for Aus. Seemed like a shame to see the economy sucking planes out
of the US, but money talks. Obviously exporting non-experimental to Aus
was (is?) profitable. The USD has gotten a lot better relative to the
British pound. ...don't know about Aus rate tho.

[rebel-builders] V8 Super Rebel for sale

Post by Bill Maxwell » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:07 pm

The USD has improved against the AUD too, as we know to our cost! In
August, one Aussie $ was worth 96 cents USD. It got as low as around 60
cents during November and has climbed back up around 67 cents today.

I'm not sure what would be required to get an imported Experimental
aircraft flying in Australia these days, as my attention has long
switched to our ultralight equivalent, but it may not be all that
difficult, since we have had an Experimental class here, modelled on
tthe US Experimental, since 1998. I suggest that you try asking the
Sports Aircraft Association of Australia, Mike visa www.saaa.com Your
Super Rebel is going to be far too heavy etc for the alternative
Recreational Aviation of Australia organisation, with which Gleeso and I
are more familiar. Biggus might be able to throw some light on the
situation, if he is monitoring this, as he has his Rebel on the civil
register but I'm not sure that VH-REB is an Experimental.

cheers

Bill
