G'Day Charlie, Mine are the same, I just assumed they were tooling holes
and ignored them.

It's a beautiful hole to run fuel lines or a conduit for wires thru !

My caryy throughs where cut I half when I got my kit which was partially done, it proved to be a real problem with many unforseen issues to resolve

You need to keep (this is a big issue I found) in mind your spacing for the control tube mounting supports will no longer be correct for mounting onto the carry through, so I used a 1/8 plate riveted over the tubes and then attached the mounting tubes to the plate, this resolved the mounting problem caused by the small carry through flange width and any clashs with the webs of the carry throughs, if you put plates over top like I did don't forget to use cs rivets so plates sit flush

Also where bolts go through the new carry throughs I put aluminum blocks between carry throughs so when torqueing the bolts the carry through is not crushed or stretched out of shape

It used to be a 1/4" or so tooling hole back in the early '90's and we were
all drilling it out to 1/2" anyhow. Maybe that's how it became a predrilled
1/2" hole from the factory!

Putting a 1/2" hole thru the upright tubes appears to have no effect on
structural strength there. I've rebuilt some pretty nasty wrecks... with the
uprights looking like a drawn archery bow.. and still no damage to the
Fus-2's or the upright tube in their immediate area.

Thanks Wayne

That makes more since now. Sure would be nice if they would put it on the
drawing.
