[rebel-builders] Tubes with 90 deg. stems

Post by Ken » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:51 pm

Mike
Several years ago there were posts saying that there are no certified
bent stem tubes. The ultra light suppliers sell 8:00 bent stem tubes but
I don't remember who makes them. However I notice that my certified
Cleveland 5" wheels for amphibs need a bent stem tube so I'm thinking
there must be certified bent stem tubes available. For the most part
though I've seen little to make me believe that a certified part would
be any better than something from Walmart??

I see that I have the 4 ply rated, 46psi max, Shin mainwheel tires for
my amphibs. Posts here say to throw them out and find 8 ply Shin tires
and put 65 psi in them... Does that mean that certified 5" tires won't fit?

I'm also curious whether the grease that will get to the tube around the
valve stem on these amphib wheels will cause the rubber to deteriorate.

Is anyone aware of aircraft grade tubes with the 90 stems for the Matco
wheel? I found 600 size tubes, but not 800's. MAM does ship Rebel's with
800 tires anymore.

[rebel-builders] Tubes with 90 deg. stems

Hi Mike and Ken TSC sells a bent valve tube marked 6:00-8:00x6 call around
beforehand but I'm sure I bought a pair in London and have seen them in
Goderich. The 4 ply rated tires are too light and certified 5" tires are
too tall. I aired up my tires to 60 lbs last week and landed at Parry
Sound. They recently put fresh tar on the cracks in the runway and what an
awfull ride. Even with the die springs on the mains I think I'm going to
drop my pressure back down a bit.

[rebel-builders] Tubes with 90 deg. stems

I "made" some aircraft grade tubes with bent stems to fit my murphy 6" wheels and goodyear 8.50 tires. I got some glue-on valve stems from Alaska Bushwheels and cut off the stems on some 8.50 aircraft tubes and glued them on. Works great! After reading stories about blown tubes using golf cart tubes, I didn't want anything to do with them.
