[rebel-builders] Pitot location

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:05 pm

Hi Charlie !

Many builders have just used a piece of tubing hung
from straps on the bottom of the wing, or fastened to
the top strut fairing. The tube runs down inside the
strut, exiting in a convenient place for a water drain,
and easier to hook up to the back of the panel than
trying to run along the wing & down from the root.

You can get quick-connects for the tube, making
it easy to remove the wings.

I've heard the ideal position is about 3" below
the wing, about 1/3 chord back ....

Bob P
Maybe I spoke to soon. After more searching I found a bunch of "E" mail
about "Tube for wiring in the wing" which included location for the pitot
tube. Thanks for the reply.

Hi Fellas,

I was wondering if there's a "best" place to locate the pitot on my rebel.
I'm looking online for general info but thought there might be some
experience with the rebel that would be good to know. The Falcon brand unit
I bought came with zero info. It is heated. I'm installing on the left
wing.

Thanks in advance. Craig
Hi Craig Most rebels have the pitot in the same rib bay as the lift strut
attach point. That's far enough out to be past the prop and the strut keeps
you from walking into it and poking your eye out. It also makes a nice
plumbing run for the tubing to go down the strut and into the cabin at the
bottom instead of at the wing root.

Thanks Drew. Kind of what I was thinking. It's always good to hear some
others with experience before you cut the wing skin. :) Craig

Hi Craig
Fresh back from Osh. I put mine in the round inspection cover just beyond the strut.

Thanks to all who answered the pitot question. I ended up putting it in the
bay between 5 and 6 forward of the strut. CW
