Gary,

I think people usually put these either in the wing -- or on the top
centerline, back in the fuselage. That's where my AFS magnetometers
will go.

I have purchased a Grand Rapids EFIS Sport for my Rebel and in

reading the instructions it says to mount the magnetometer 1)

keep the magnetometer "at least 12 inches away from any current

away from ferrous metal". I was going to put the magnetometer

behind the dash but that is less than 18" from the engine mount

and less than 12 inches from current (I suspect larger loads) from

large current carrying wires.

So if anyone has a GRT Sport in their Rebel, I would like to know

where they mounted the magnetometer.

Again thanking you in advance for your reply.

Thanks for the immediate response and information. I will
use one of the two recommended locations - whichever is easiest
to pull the wires.

Hi Gary

I have installed two GRT EFIS units. On one we put the magnetometer in the
wing the other was in the fuselage just behind the baggage area in the top
left corner. Both locations worked very well. I would not mount it behind
the panel as it is to close to the engine and main electrical system. you do
not need to run shielded wire as the signal is digital. I ran the wiring
below the left door sill behind the push pull tube.

I have their EFIS in my Elite, and put the magnetometer in the tail, on a
platform riveted to the top of the two rails that support the lower elevator
pulleys. You have to rig it horizontal, of course.
