100 LL in rotax 912

For the official Rotax word go to rotax-owner.com. That has a list of all the IL's and SB's. In short, Bob is right. avoid 100LL when possible and do not use synthetic motor oils. I would expand on his "motorcycle oil" comment. Rotax has specifically approved Shell Oil Sport plus 4 avaition oil. It is a semi synthetic without friction modifiers and with anti foaming additives. As a semi synthetic it will suspend some lead when required. Another possible choice would be Mobil synthetic motorcycle oil. It used to be called MXT but there has been a name (only) change. It is OK with mogas but not 100LL. In any case, if you use 100 LL more than just the very occasional time I suggest 25 hour oil change intervals. The Rotax site is more specific. Remember that 100LL has 18 times the lead that our regular leaded auto gas used to have.

On another subject, Rotax approves up to 5% ethanol. Lockwood has used up to 10% without trouble but that is outside the official Rotax position.
